If your PAX or Tap terminal is unavailable, for example while it's being replaced, you can keep taking card payments using the Mollie Tap app.
What you need to know in advance
- The Mollie Tap app turns your own device into a contactless payment terminal. You don't need any extra hardware.
- Your phone needs NFC support and must meet the minimum requirements. On iPhone, you'll need iOS 16 or newer. On Android, you'll need Android 11 or later, a GMS-certified device, built-in NFC, and a security patch no older than 12 months.
Setting up the Tap app
- Download the Tap app on your device from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
-
In your Mollie Dashboard, navigate to In-person Payments.
- Click Add Terminal, then select Activate Tap app.
- Choose a profile and ensure Point of Sale is enabled for it.
- Enable Allow local sales (if you want to create payments directly in the app).
- A QR code and a 24-digit code will appear.
-
In the Tap app on your device
- Click on Start setup.
- Scan the QR code in your dashboard with the Tap app, or manually type in the 24 digits.
- Follow the on-screen prompts and grant the required permissions.
- Tap Next to complete the setup.
That’s it! Your device is now ready to process payments.
Taking a payment
Processing payments through the Tap app is straightforward and can be done in various ways. You can either process payments directly through the app or via an integration setup. More information here.
What happens next
All payments taken through Tap to Pay appear in your Mollie App and Dashboard alongside your other in-person and online payments, so your reporting stays in one place while your PAX or Tap terminal is unavailable.
