Accepting Apple Pay donations as a charity

Apple Pay is available to eligible charities using Mollie. This article explains how it works, whether you qualify, and how to get set up.

How does Apple Pay work for charities?

Apple Pay allows donors to complete a payment using Face ID or a fingerprint, without entering card details manually. It works on iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers, both on your website and in any app you use to accept donations.

For charities, this means a faster, smoother experience for supporters giving on their phone or computer, with no extra steps between intention and action.

Does Apple Pay make a difference?

In short, yes. Donors giving on mobile are particularly sensitive to friction. So when they’re asked to manually input card numbers, some people give up during the process.

Apple Pay, on the other hand, can be authorised with a single fingerprint or face scan, making it quick and easy.

For a donation page that’s already getting traffic, that could make a meaningful difference without any changes to your fundraising or marketing.

Our advice is to test it. Activate Apple Pay for a few months and see if it makes a difference. You can turn it on and off with a single click from your Mollie Dashboard.

Am I eligible?

To offer Apple Pay through Mollie, your charity must be registered and approved through Benevity – a platform that verifies charitable organisations for digital giving.

If you’re unsure whether your charity is Benevity-registered, you can check directly on their website. If you’re not yet registered, you can apply through their platform.

What does Benevity registration involve?

Benevity verifies that your organisation is a legitimate registered charity. The process typically requires:

  • Your charity registration number
  • Basic organisational details
  • Confirmation of your charitable status

Registration is free for charities. Once approved, you’ll be eligible to offer Apple Pay through Mollie.

Will my fees change?

Apple Pay transactions are processed in the same way as standard card payments. There is no additional fee for offering Apple Pay through Mollie. You can see more on our pricing page

How do I activate Apple Pay in Mollie?

Once your Benevity registration is confirmed:

  1. Log in to your Mollie Dashboard
  2. Go to Payment Methods
  3. Find Apple Pay and click Activate

That’s it. Apple Pay will appear as a payment option for eligible donors on your checkout or donation page automatically.

Can I turn Apple Pay off?

Yes. If you want to disable Apple Pay for any reason, you can do so with a single click in the same Payment Methods section of your Dashboard.
