What is a balance reserve and how do I set one?

A balance reserve is an amount you choose to keep on your Mollie balance at all times. It's deducted from each payout so you always have funds available for refunds — without needing to top up your balance or wait for new payments to come in.

Setting a balance reserve amount

  1. In your Mollie Dashboard, click on your organisation name in the top left corner.
  2. Go to Settings > Balance.
  3. Under Balance reserve amount, enter the amount you want to keep on your balance.

At the moment of each payout, your reserve amount is deducted from the payout amount. For example:

Available balance: €2,000
Balance reserve: €500
Payout amount: €1,500 (€2,000 − €500)

After the payout, your available balance will be €500.

If your available balance is less than your balance reserve at the moment of payout, the payout is skipped. You can change or remove the balance reserve amount at any time.

Recommended reserve amount

If you've had refund queues in the past, a recommended amount is shown below the input field. This is calculated based on your historical refund data and updated regularly so you're not reserving more than necessary.
