What is Revenue Day Payouts, how does it improve my operations and how do I enable it?

Revenue Day Payouts is a setting that makes each payout amount equal to the revenue generated through Mollie on a specific date. This feature is designed to reduce time and effort you have to spend on reconciliation.

What are the benefits

When you sell your goods or services, funds of payments paid are added to your Mollie balance. All funds in your available balance are paid out to your bank account. Payouts are a collection (or ‘batch’) of funds that can contain payments from a variety of different dates, as different payment methods can have different settlement delays. Moreover, payments on weekends are batched and paid out collectively on Mondays. This means that when you want to reconcile your revenue from a certain date, you need to search for individual payment transactions in several different payout batches.

With Revenue Day Payouts you can continuously reconcile one date of doing business with your Mollie Payout, because all payment transactions in that payout batch have been paid on the same day.

In short, Revenue Day Payouts improves your operations through;

  • Simplified reconciliation, because you can match each payout with a full day's revenue
  • Predictable cash flows, because you know what revenue is going to be paid out each day

How it works

Mollie allows the above by harmonising the settlement delays of all your enabled payment methods. Next to that, we are no longer batching all payments of weekend days but instead sending multiple, distinct payouts per day after the weekend or a holiday.

After enabling Revenue Day Payouts, Mollie will automatically change some settings for you:

  • Settlement delay values of your enabled payment methods are harmonized to (T+1) or (T+3).
  • Your minimum payout amount is set to 0
  • If applicable, your Balance Reserve is disabled
  • You will start receiving payouts every business day

Below you can find a list of eligible payment methods and an example payout schedule.

  • Category 1: iDEAL, Bancontact, Belfius, KBC, Point of Sale
  • Category 2: Credit Card,  Klarna, Apple Pay, Google Pay

Category 2 payment methods are only eligible when at least one category 1 method is enabled too. Paypal, Vouchers and Gift Cards are settled outside of Mollie, so they are eligible for Revenue Day Payouts too. Find an overview of all eligibility criteria at the bottom of this article.

*Another benefit of this feature is the fact that the settlement delay values for Credit Cards and Klarna are reduced respectively from T+4 and T+5 to T+3.

Some time is needed for your funds to completely match your revenue day schedule, for example because you already had some funds in your pending-, and/or available balance. This means that:

  • For (T+1), your first ‘complete’ Revenue Day Payout is after 3 business days.
As an example: when you enable on September 1st, your first proper Revenue Day Payout will be on September 4th.
  • For (T+3), your first ‘complete’ Revenue Day Payout is after 5 business days.

It is never later than what is stated above, however in some cases it might be faster. You can consult your settlement report to check the revenue (date) included in your payout.

Other transaction types

This feature matches the payout amount with your revenue, which consists of all your payments. Refunds, Chargebacks, and other balance transactions are added to the payout batch as they occur. When chargebacks or Mollie charges deplete your balance or even make your balance negative, your (Revenue Day) Payout is skipped. This results in you having to wait a couple of days for your payouts to re-calibrate to the Revenue Day Payout schedule. This will happen automatically; you won’t have to take any action.

For Captures, moment of capture is regarded as the moment revenue is recognised.

How do you enable Revenue Day Payouts?

You can easily enable this feature in your Mollie Dashboard

  1. Go to Balance > Settings
  2. When eligible, you can select Revenue Day Payouts as one of the payout frequency options
  3. Click Save to confirm

Eligibility criteria

These are automatically applied. If you don’t see the option to enable Revenue Day Payouts in your settings, you are not eligible. This can be because:

  1. You have payment methods enabled outside of the eligible list of methods
  2. You have a custom settlement delay value appointed to your organisation
  3. You have a rolling reserve appointed to your organisation
  4. You are onboarded to Mollie as sub-seller on a Marketplace platform

Please find all criteria and more information about what happens to this setting when you become non-eligible in this article.
