Starting 1 January 2026, Bulgaria will officially adopt the Euro (EUR) as its currency, replacing the Bulgarian Lev (BGN).
This change means that if you currently handle payments in BGN, you’ll need to update your Mollie setup accordingly before the transition date.
Do I need to update my integration?
If you process transactions in BGN, it’s important to make the necessary adjustments before the end of December 2025 to ensure a smooth switch to EUR.
For payments, update your integration by 30 December 2025.
Payments
If you use Mollie’s payment APIs or tools, make sure to switch the currency from BGN to EUR before 1 January 2026. For example, when creating payment requests, use EUR instead of BGN in the currency field. As of 1 January 2026, the payments will not get created if the currency is BGN.
Refunds and disputes
Refunds and disputes for payments made in BGN can still be refunded until the end of February, after which it will no longer be possible.
