What is an onboarding fee?

The onboarding fee is a one-time charge that we apply to new Mollie users operating in specific industries.

Which industries are subject to the onboarding fee?

The onboarding fee only applies to businesses whose primary activities fall into one of the following categories:

  • Charity and donations
  • Religious organisations
  • Political parties
  • Fundraising, crowdfunding, and social services

If your business is not in one of these categories, you will not be charged this fee.

Why do I have to pay an onboarding fee?

To comply with financial regulations, businesses in these sectors require a more in-depth and costly initial review. This process is known as ‘enhanced customer due diligence’.

This one-time onboarding fee covers the specific, upfront costs of performing this enhanced review. This approach enables us to sustainably support businesses in these industries while keeping our standard transaction fees competitive for all our customers.

When do I have to pay the onboarding fee?

After creating a Mollie account, you will start the onboarding process. Then here’s what will happen:

  1. Notification: During the sign-up process, we’ll inform you if the fee applies to your business.
  2. Acceptance: You will only be charged the onboarding fee if you acknowledge this and proceed with onboarding.
  3. Deduction: You do not pay the fee upfront. Instead, we automatically deduct it from your first payout after you begin processing payments with us. No initial payment is required.
