How do I refund a payment?

You can refund up to 100 payments at once in your Mollie Dashboard or the Mollie mobile app. Refunds are possible for all payment methods except gift cards and Paysafecard.


What you need to know in advance

  • The process for refunding PayPal payments is slightly different. You can read more about this here.
  • Refunds for credit card payments must be made within one year of the transaction.

Refunding a payment

Mollie Dashboard 

  1. Log in to your Mollie Dashboard.
  2. Go to Transactions > Payments.
  3. Select a payment you want to refund. 
  4. In the top right corner of the page, click on Create refund and fill in the amount you wish to refund.
  5. Optional: Add a description.
    • Your customer will see this on their bank statement.
    • This isn't possible for credit and debit card payments.
  6. Click on Refund to submit your refund.

Mollie App 

  1. In the Mollie app, go to Payments and select the payment you want to refund.
  2. Click Refund in the top right-hand corner of your screen.
  3. Select the amount you wish to refund.
  4. Add a description.
  5. Click Refund.


Cancelling a refund

You can cancel a refund within 2 hours of making it. 

Mollie Dashboard

  1. Log in to your Mollie Dashboard
  2. Go to Transactions > Payments.
  3. Select the refunded payment you want to cancel.
  4. Click Refunds > Cancel

Mollie App

  1. In the Mollie app, go to Payments and select the refunded payment you wish to cancel.
  2. Click on Refunds > Cancel Refund > Confirm.


Refunding a PayPal transaction

PayPal refunds are processed through PayPal. To refund a PayPal transaction, you need to have enough balance in your PayPal account to cover the refund cost. 

  • Refunds through PayPal will be taken from your PayPal balance, not your Mollie balance. 
  • PayPal refunds must be made within 180 days of the transaction. 
  • Mollie charges a fee of €0,25 for each refund.


When will my refund be processed? 

We will process your refund the next business day. In most cases, your customer will receive the refunded amount in their account within 2 business days. If your customer paid with a credit or debit card, their refund will appear on their card statement within 14 days of the refund being processed. 


What if I don't have enough balance for a refund?

We process refunds using your available balance. If you don't have enough balance, we'll queue the refund until you receive more funds or you top up your balance
