An API key is a unique code that connects your Mollie account to another website or system. It allows the API to recognize and authenticate you as the user. When integrating Mollie with a third party, you’ll need to use either a Test API key or a Live API key.
Types of API keys
Mollie provides two types of API keys:
-
Test API key:
Use this key to test the connection between your website and Mollie. You can simulate transactions without incurring any fees. -
Live API key:
This key enables real transactions. Once it's used to connect your website to Mollie, your customers can begin making payments.
Where to find your API key
- Log in to your Mollie Dashboard.
- Navigate to Developers > API keys.
-
Click Copy next to the key you want to use.
Do I need a new API key if I make changes to my website profile?
No, if you update your website profile such as your URL, your existing Live API key remains valid. The connection between your Mollie account and your webshop will continue to function as before.
If you are using multiple websites, please check - Can I use the same API for multiple websites?
