The SEPA Direct Debit product includes a number of key moments. In order to provide better insight into the course of a transaction, we explain in this article what the timeline looks like, and at which moments something happens or should happen.
Payments submitted before 16:00 are carried out the next business day. Unfortunately, this is not always guaranteed but is true in most cases. When you create a direct debit payment after 16:00, it will be debited 2 business days later.
14 days before the direct debit | Let your customer know what amount you are going to direct debit and when. You can do this via email, text message, letter, etc. |
1 - 2 business days before the direct debit | Create the payment. Payments submitted before 16:00 are processed the same day. Payments submitted after 16:00 will be processed the next business day. |

1 business day after the direct debit | The status of the transaction in your Mollie Dashboard will change to 'paid'. |
5 business days after the direct debit | From the day of the direct debit up until now, a transaction can fail. |
10 business days after the status of the payment was changed to 'paid' | Transaction is paid out today (standard). |
8 weeks after the direct debit | From the day of the direct debit up until now, a transaction can be still be reversed by the account holder. |
13 months after the direct debit | The last moment at which an Unauthorized Direct Debit Report can be filed. |
36 months after the direct debit | An authorization that has not been used for 36 months can no longer be used. |
* 'Day of the direct debit' refers to the day on which the money is debited from the consumer's bank account.
