Firmware updates for your Mollie payment terminal

Keeping your payment terminal secure is essential. From time to time, your terminal will prompt you to update its firmware. This is a routine part of how we keep your device compliant, safe and running smoothly. Updates are mandatory and will be installed automatically if your device is on and connected to the internet.

What you will see on your terminal

When a software update is ready, your terminal will display a notification screen with the following options:

  • OK — confirm and start the update immediately. The button shows a 60-second countdown; if no action is taken, the installation begins automatically.
  • Later — postpone the update by 1 hour.

If it’s not the right time to update your device, you can postpone the update up to 5 times. After that, the terminal will install the update automatically on its next restart.

Here is an example of the notification which will be displayed on your PAX device:

The update process

The terminal will check that the battery level is at least 50% before proceeding. If the battery is below this threshold, the installation is postponed automatically and retried after 1 hour. This counts toward your five postponements limit.

Firmware updates require a restart. Your terminal will be unavailable for 5 to 10 minutes in most of the cases.

To avoid any disruption to your operations, we recommend confirming the update outside of your busiest transaction hours.
