iDEAL 2.0

iDEAL will be replaced by iDEAL 2.0 and all businesses that accept iDEAL payments need to migrate to iDEAL 2.0 by 1 March 2025.

Depending on how you integrate with Mollie, you might need to take action. We will migrate some Mollie customers automatically.

What is iDEAL 2.0?

iDEAL 2.0 aims to provide a better experience for businesses and customers by streamlining the purchasing flow: customers who select iDEAL at checkout will be redirected to a new iDEAL payment page that uses new customer profiles. These use cookies to auto-fill saved details during the payment process to help your customers pay more quickly and easily.

Migrating to iDEAL 2.0

Depending on the integration, Mollie users need to take the following steps:

  • Custom integration: Remove the bank selection option from the checkout page.
  • Webshop plugin: Update your current ecommerce plugin and ensure no bank selection dropdown appears on the checkout page.
  • Mollie checkout: No action required, we’ll automatically migrate you to iDEAL 2.0 by July.

We’re focused on ensuring the transition is smooth and effortless for you and your customers.

Migration steps for a custom integration:

  1. Check whether there is a bank selection dropdown (also referred to as issuer selection) on your checkout page.
  2. If no dropdown appears, no further action is required.
  3. If there is a bank selection dropdown, remove it and instead only display the iDEAL logo and payment method name to the consumer.
Additionally, stop sending in the Issuer ID in your ‘Create payment’ request.
  4. Once you stop sending in the Issuer ID, the response to the API call will include the link to the new iDEAL hosted page, where the consumer will select their issuing bank for the iDEAL payment.
NOTE: in case you are using the Methods API to dynamically receive the list of issuers for iDEAL, you can remove this step from your integration.

Migration steps for a webshop plugin:

  1. Check whether there is a bank selection dropdown on your checkout page.
  2. If no dropdown appears, no further action is required.
  3. If there is a bank selection dropdown, disable it in your iDEAL settings (e.g Plugin Settings > Payment Methods > iDEAL > Issuer List Style).
NOTE: If there is no option to disable it, the dropdown will disappear automatically after you update the plugin to the latest version.
  1. Update the plugin to the latest version.

The new releases will be available in the coming months, and will take effect as soon as you install the latest version.
