How does Mollie protect my business and my money?

Your trust is our most important asset. At Mollie, we take the responsibility of protecting your business and your funds seriously. Security isn't just a feature; it's built into every layer of your Mollie Business Account.

While you play a crucial role by securing your credentials, this guide explains what we do on our side to keep your account safe.

Safeguarding your funds

As a financial institution licensed and regulated by the Dutch Central Bank (De Nederlandsche Bank – DNB), we are legally required to keep your money safe. All funds in your Mollie Business Account are held in a separate safeguarding account, completely segregated from Mollie's own business funds. This ensures that your money is always protected.

Secure technology and infrastructure

We use a multi-layered approach to protect your account and data from unauthorised access.

  • Mandatory Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): We require all users to secure their account with 2FA via the Mollie app. This ensures that even if your password were compromised, your account could not be accessed without approval from your trusted smartphone.
  • 3D Secure for online payments: When you use your Mollie card to pay online, 3D Secure adds an extra layer of verification. It's like a PIN for your online shopping, requiring you to approve the payment in your Mollie app. This helps confirm it’s really you making the purchase.
  • Real-time transaction monitoring: Our automated security systems work 24/7 to analyse transactions for suspicious activity. If we detect something that looks unusual, we may block the transaction to protect you from potential fraud.
  • Data Encryption: In line with strict regulatory requirements, all sensitive information is encrypted both "in transit" (as it travels between you and Mollie) and "at rest" (while stored on our servers). This means your data is scrambled and unreadable to unauthorised parties.

Our security partnership

Security is a partnership. We build and maintain a secure platform, and you protect access to it. The safest system in the world can still be at risk if a user's password and phone are compromised. By following the best practices in our security guides, you create the strongest possible defence for your business.

Good to know

We are constantly monitoring the security landscape for new and emerging threats. We are committed to keeping you informed and will publish updates on our blog and Help Centre if there are new scams or security measures you need to be aware of.
