What are the costs for a credit card transaction?

In the table below, you will find the different rates for credit card transactions. Where before we applied one fixed rate to all Visa and MasterCard credit-card transactions, we now distinguish between two types of transactions:

  • Transactions originating from within the European Economic Area (EEA) made with consumer (privately held) credit cards.
  • Transactions originating from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and business credit cards.

Please note that the United Kingdom is no longer considered part of the EEA. As a result, our standard prices for card transactions for UK merchants have changed.

The rates for credit card transactions are as follows:

Type of credit card transaction Rate per transaction
Visa or MasterCard EEA consumer cards + Postepay + Cartes Bancaires 1.8% + €0.25
Visa or MasterCard commercial and non-EEA cards + American Express 2.8% + €0.25
Maestro €0.39

Just like with all of our payment methods, the costs are charged at the moment we pay out the outstanding balance. At that moment, we assess which type of credit card the consumers have used, so we can calculate the transaction costs. The costs are then deducted from the payout.

There is a possibility that the products or services you sell are categorised as products or services with a higher risk. In that case, it is possible that we will charge you an additional risk charge in addition to the credit-card rates. Examples are, for instance, products with a very long delivery time, or popular, expensive brand items.
