How do I refund a payment?

You can refund up to 100 payments at once from your Mollie dashboard. Refunds are possible for all payment methods, except gift cards and Paysafecard. 


What you need to know in advance

The amount refunded will be slightly less than the original transaction. This is because your refund includes our original service fee and a refund fee.

PayPal and credit card transactions must be submitted within a certain time:

  • PayPal refunds: within 180 days. 
  • Credit card refunds: within one year.


Refunding a PayPal transaction

PayPal refunds are processed through PayPal. This means that any refunds you receive are added to your PayPal balance (and not to your Mollie balance). In order to refund a customer’s PayPal transaction, you must have enough balance in your PayPal account. 

 

Refunding a payment

  1. Log in to your Mollie Dashboard
  2. Go to Transactions > Payments.
  3. Select a payment you want to refund. 
  4. Click on Refund and fill in the amount you wish to refund.
  5. Optional: Add a description. 
    • Your customer will see this on their bank statement.
    • This is not possible for credit and debit card payments.
  6. Click on Refund again to submit your refund.


Cancelling a refund

You can cancel a refund within 2 hours of making it.. 

  1. Log in to your Mollie Dashboard
  2. Go to Transactions > Payments.
  3. Select the payment you want to cancel.
  4. Click Refunds > Cancel


When will my refund be processed? 

We will process your refund the next business day. In most cases, your customer will receive the refunded amount in their account within 2 business days. If your customer paid with a credit or debit card, their refund will appear on their card statement within 14 days of the refund being processed. 


What if I don't have enough balance for a refund?

To refund your customer, we deduct the refund amount from your available balance. If you do not have enough balance in your account, we will not be able to process your refund. If this happens, your refund will be queued until you receive more funds, or you top up your balance yourself. 


Good to know 

You can refund up to € 25- more than the original payment amount to your customers. Unfortunately, this is not possible for credit card payments.
